Lovely early evening light illuminates the almost bare canopy of beech trees above the glorious carpet of bluebells at Micheldever Wood in Hampshire. Proof that it pays to look up as well as down when photographing a woodland scene. (FujiFilm X-E1, Samyang 12mm f/2.0 NCS CS)

A view towards Salterns Sailing Club clubhouse over Eight Acre Pond in the Lymington-Keyhaven Nature Reserve, Hampshire. From the middle ages until 1865 salt water was evaporated in these shallow lagoons (salterns) and the brine was then heated to produce sea salt. This pond was created in 1959 from an old salt pan and is now used by children and young people to learn how to sail. A 2 minute exposure at dusk to maximise the reflection using a FujiFilm X-T1 camera and Fujinon XF55-200mm F3.5-4.8 R LM OIS lens, a 10 stop neutral density filter and the Classic Chrome film simulation for muted, subtle colours and deep shadows, the image was cropped to 16:9 format.

Cow Parsley, loved by some as the roadside verges turn white heralding the arrival of summer and hated by those who consider it invasive and detrimental to more traditional wild flowers. Seen here on the edge of a field next to a railway bridge on the disused Longparish Branch section of the Test Valley ‘Sprat and Winkle’ line that closed in 1956. Image made with a Canon EOS 6D and a Russian Helios 58mm f2 lens.

The Monument on Farley Mount, near Winchester, Hampshire. This pyramidal obelisk commemorates a horse named ‘Beware Chalk Pit’ that won the Hunters Plate at nearby Worthy Down races a year after falling into a chalk pit 25 feet deep. 2 cast iron plaques on the Monument state that the horse is buried under the folly. Sadly the surrounding foliage has been allowed to take over the mound, somewhat spoiling the impact of the obelisk.
